  4. Hi. I have a samsung galaxy s4 GT-I9505 and is on android 4.2.2 and I would like to upgrade to 4.4.2.

I wanted to ask if odin upgrades the firmware without rooting?

Also what are the chances of it not working?

And finally should i update in steps e.g. 4.3 the 4.4.2 or can i upgrade straight to 4.4.2?

    Thanks

  5. - Flashing official FW by odin doesn't need root
    - If you follow the instructions and choose the correct FW file for your S4 model, it will work without any problem
    - No, you can upgrade it to 4.4.2 without flashing 4.3
    Good luck

  6. Hi. Thanks for the reply.

I have a few more questions.

    - Does this void the warranty?

    - Can I get future updates from Samsung if there are any?

    - Are all the firmwares off Sammobile official?

    - Will the firmware work just like a ota update would of?

-And will the flashing the firmware damage the phone in any way or reduce its life span?

    Thanks

  8. Sorry last question.

On the sam mobile formware page there are different types of firmware dependent on the csc. Using an app my csc is H3G. I wanted to ask that on the video you downloaded the BTU one. Should I do the same? Or use the H3G? And what are the differences between the two?

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  9. No you shouldn't download BTU
For a few info about CSC check this and what happened if CSC doesn't match http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/08/change-csc-samsung-galaxy-devices-s4.html

  31. I have the S4 Active (SGH-I537). Never been able to use it for a wifi hotspot with any app. One day I don't recall giving permision but it upgraded from Jealy Bean 4.3 to Lollipop 5.0.1. I found out about rooting the phone but from what I understand after several days of research and attemps the lollipop version cant be rooted if it was not already rooted before the update. Don't know if its true but I do know I havent found a way to root it. I'm all set up and ready for downgrade but I can't get myself to do it because I've read where people did it and lost their IME number whatever its called and others have reported their phone is telling them to install a sim card. Im just wondering if the sim and sd card should or can be taken out during the downgrade. I don't know I cant afford to throw my phone down the drain right now. I hope someone who can is succesful at it soon or comes out with a root program that works. Activeroot and Towelroot didn't work. I read that Kingroot 4.0 doesn't work either. This is so frustrating. I know the FCC passed judgement against carriers blocking phones so they can't be used as a wifi hotspot. I'm on straight talk so that makes it worse. I guess go forward with filing a complaint with the FCC. Everytime the hot spot doesn't work it gives me a message saying there is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of the mobile hotspot function. I can tether via usb only on widows vista.

  32. It just worked for me. I have the Samsung S4 Active (SGH-I537) with Lollipop 5.0.1 - I537UCUCOC6 with no root access. It updated from 4.3 Jelly Bean. I opened it after downloading and it said root not available. Then there was a green start root box/button at the bottom. I clicked on it. Root went to like 53% slowed down a bit then finished. At the top it said root successful or successful root something like that. Now I'm going to follow another tutorial to try and get my wifi hot spot working. I used the latest release kingroot_V4.1.0.703.apk.

  33. OK guys I tried to get Kingroot off my phone and successfully put my phone in a boot loop from hell. I thought it was done for good but I finally got the correct firmware and was successfully able to down grade my Galaxy S4 Active (SGH-I537) from Lollipop 5.0.1 to the version 4.4.2 (I537UCUCNE3) after hour of frustration. I don't remember the websites where I got the files but I have them saved and will look it up again later on my days off real quick. I used Odin v3.09, Samsung Kies 3 and firmware version I537UCUCNE3_v4.4.2_ATT_ALL. The firmware extracted 4 files starting with the letters BL_I537UCUCNE_987011_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_tar.md5, then AP_, CP_ and CSC_. Its the same on all 4 except the CSC starts with CSC_ATT_I537ATTCNE3_987011..... What a mess. Anyway I put the files on Odin in the perspective boxes BL,AP,CP and CSC. The first com3 box failed and then the 2nd com4 box flashed the firmware. I forgot to wait until it said pass and unplugged the cord to soon so I did it again and it only flashed with com4. Worked flawlessly with ne problems. I waited for the green pass in the box before disconnecting the usb cable. I just got to wait for a sim card in the mail because I activated another phone when I thought this one toast.

  36. I messed up my phone and got the white screen of death trying to remove a different app, called Kingroot, with super-sume but I was able to successfully downgrade back to version 4.4.2. As soon as I get my new sim card I'll try to root the 4.4.2 version. I have to get a new sim card because mine was deactivate when I fired up the back up phone. The kingroot app worked but I didn't know what files to tweak to get the wifi working. GadgetClass (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmaoT3rd5Ho) has a tutorial on it but I couldn't find the same files in root browser on ver. 5.0.1 lollipop. I'm going to ask him what version he rooted.
